What is the difference between cologne and perfume the difference between perfume and cologne most people think that perfume is for women and cologne is for men but that’s not necessarily true and what the real difference is the concentration of the aromatic components
A perfume will be anywhere from 15 to 30 percent aromatics and a cologne will be it depends on the manufacturer but anywhere from about three percent to 10 percent generally so really it’s about the concentration and not about whether the perfume the fragrance is geared toward men or women and so that’s that’s what the difference
I’ve just barely come across the definition and I broke it down and now it makes a lot of sense when you guys see things like EDT you know when you see things like EDP it’s basically the toilet and the perfumes so when it comes to these colognes you have your perfumes and then you have your toilette the difference between the two is going to be the oil concentration that oil concentration
the more the better the more that this cologne is going to project the more that is going to last it’s gonna have longevity and all that good stuff so a perfume is basically going to have more of that oil concentration and then a toilette is going to have less of that oil concentration I’ll break it down for you a little bit more so you guys can understand but that’s basically
the difference when you see a perfume don’t think it’s a perfume and it oh this is a girl saying I’m not gonna buy that no it just means that it has a higher higher oil concentration in it that means it’s more pure it’s not diluted with water with with alcohol with a bunch of fragrances and all that other stuff so here’s a picture you guys can take a look right here I’m going to be breaking it down it shows you
the difference between perfumes the edp’s (EDP eau de parfum) the toilets and you got your colognes and then you got this you know this crazy world like I said I’m black alright this is a French word I don’t know if this is Frenchie or this is the French
I don’t really know but you guys can see the percentages so let’s go ahead and break this down this is going to be your oil concentration so you can see if it’s just straight perfume you’re gonna get about twenty to thirty percent of that oil concentration and like
I said the more the better this this thing is going to last up to eight hours as you guys can see on this chart so when you have about twenty to thirty percent of that oil concentration you can expect your cologne to last for about eight hours now we can go down to the EDP which is gonna be the a day perfume I guess that’s how you pronounce
I don’t know we’re just gonna call it an EDP this is basically going to be 15 to 20 percent of that oil concentration in it so you know when you look at this chart it might go from about eight hours to about six hours longevity when you’re dealing with it EDP
now here we go with EDT Eau de Toilette (EDT) this is basically going to be your toilet you can see that it’s just diluted a lot it drops all the way down to 5 to 15% of that oil concentration that we’re looking for all right so just depending on the brand you might get a cheaper brand and it says toilet but they might actually only use about 5% of that oil concentration so you might only get about 3 hours or something like that when it comes to your colognes and stuff you might have something you know like yeast saint-laurent
it is a toilet but they’re going to use about 15% oil concentration and that’s why you can get a toilet that might cost you about $100 and you can get up Funes gonna cost you about $100 because you can see the EDP it might use 15% and then you have a toilet here it might actually use 15% as well so you guys just want to gauge that and monitor the type of brands or whatever so that’s gonna give you about you know 5 to 15%
when we’re dealing with the toilet and then if you drop down a little bit you might see something like it might just say EDC or it might just say cologne on it you know so for instance you know a popular cologne is like a curve right if you look on curve it doesn’t say toilet it says cologne cologne spray so when you’re dealing with that you’re gonna get about two to four percent of that oil concentration in it so you know curve is not really going to last that long you might get maybe uh you know a two hours
if Matt you know and then we got this a Frenchie I don’t really know how you pronounce this man you know but this is only gonna give you about one to three percent that’s going to last less than two hours alright so that’s basically
the difference when you’re dealing with these things like I said guys I’m no way a fragrance guru or anything like that this is just some information that I came across that basically just changed everything for me
when I’m out here and I’m shopping for my Cologne so I just wanted to drop that on you guys and hopefully that helps you guys out just like it helped me out so now you guys know what you’re looking for when you’re out there shopping for you colognes way man I see too many people out here spraying cologne in the wrong places
this is not how you apply your color Cologne let’s be honest we want our cologne to project we want our cologne to last so there are a few hacks that you guys can’t you know tap into to make your cologne last a little bit longer and I’ll give you guys one little hint right now if you’re spraying your cologne right here on your wrist check out my other blog about how to apply cologne
what is the difference between cologne and perfume
Why is it called cologne instead of perfume? people also ask
What is eau de cologne? Eau de Cologne is a lighter fragrance blend of 2% – 4% perfume oils in alcohol and water, invented in the 18th century by Italian perfumer Giovanni Maria Farina for the royal courts of Europe. The word ‘cologne’ comes from the German city of Cologne, where Farnia was living at the time.
Is cologne just male perfume?
Cologne is usually an umbrella word for masculine scents in North America, but eau de cologne is actually the term for a very light concentration of perfume oils, usually 2 to 4 percent, that is cut with more alcohol and lasts only for a few hours.
What is the point of cologne?
If you want to make a good first impression, cologne is the way to go. The sense of smell is the strongest of the five senses, and it’s also the sense that is most closely linked to memory and emotion. If you want people to take notice of you or feel something about you, use a high-quality scent to make that happen.
